Following a successful soft launch week which saw customers queuing around the building,Bunsik Manchester is now open.

London Korean Corn Dog legends Bunsik have reached the North with their latest launch, having opened a new site in Manchester. With three popular branches in London, the corn dog connoisseurs have become iconic in the capital and have now made a move north with their first outpost in Manchester city centre.

Occupying a 2,000 square foot site on Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens, the new restaurant offers the biggest menu yet. With a wider selection of its infamous corn dogs already taking the city by storm, with queues around the block throughout the opening week.

Sweet and savoury, chewy and crispy, Korean corn dogs have been around since the 1980s in Korea and have since gained notoriety in Taiwan, Japan, China, the US, and now, Manchester. For the uninitiated, a Korean corn dog is made from either sausage, cheese, or a combination of the two; skewered, dipped in batter then rolled in breadcrumbs; topped with potato, diced french fries, crushed ramen noodles, or crispy rice before hitting the fryer and cooked to a perfect golden brown.

Championing this well-loved East Asian snack, Bunsik’s menu features tasty and authentic options, such as: The Original Corn Dog (premium chicken sausage with crispy outside); Half & Half (a combination of chicken sausage and mozzarella cheese); Potato Mozzarella (Mozzarella cheese with potato cubes wrapped around) and a cheese-lover’s dream; Cheese & Cheese (Mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan and cheese sauce with crispy potato cubes).

Other menu highlights include: Kimbap (cooked rice, vegetables, fishcake, and meat rolled in gim – dried sheets of seaweed – and served in bite-sized slices); Ddukbokki (cylindrical rice cakes cooked in a spicy sauce); Korean Fried Chicken (tossed in a variety of sauces including sweet and spicy, honey garlic, and dak gangjeong) and Cup Bap rice bowls (Katsu, dak gangjeong and soy chicken). Plus ramyun noodle soup and a variety of Korean chicken burgers.

Bunsik have also introduced a new dessert, Bingsu, available exclusively at the new Manchester site. Similar to ice cream, Bingsu is made from frozen cream or milk, which is grated or shaved to create a fluffy, snow-like dessert. Served with a choice of toppings; original red bean, oreo, strawberry or mango.

Fans of bubble tea can enjoy a selection of popular milk tea and green tea choices as well as a number of Bunsik house favourites, including Matcha Milk Bubble Tea, Chocolate Bubble Tea and Strawberry Green Tea. Bubble Tea – in its simplest form – features freshly brewed tea and milk, served hot, cool, or iced (most popularly the latter), with chewy tapioca ‘boba’ bubbles providing a delicious mix of textures.

As one of the country’s most innovative and successful street-food brands, Bunsik has seamlessly fit into Manchester’s thriving culinary scene, offering Mancunians and visitors alike something new yet authentically Korean.

Bunsik is now open at Piccadilly Gardens and will soon be available on Deliveroo. Keep an eye on Bunsik’s socials for further updates.
