Labour’s Paul Dennett has won a third term as Salford’s Mayor

Dennett won the contest with 63 per cent of the vote easily beating the Tory Candidate Jillian Collinson

The turnout was just 25 percent

Dennett in his victory speech said that “Westminster and Whitehall model” of governing was “clearly broken and detached from ordinary people’s lives”

Being elected as mayor for the great city of Salford remains the most rewarding and humbling experience in my life.”

Adding that

“Both locally and nationally it is clear that the Tories have fundamentally lost their way and it is clearly now time for a general election and for this Government to step aside and make way for a Labour government.”
