Andy Burnham has won a third term as Mayor of Greater Manchester

Burnham won easily with 426,749 with 64 per cent of the votes votes while the The Conservatives finished second with Independent Nick Buckley finishing third.

“I am ready to fight harder than I have ever fought for anything before, for a Greater Manchester where people can live free from the fear of debt, hunger and eviction,” Burnham said from the podium after the result was announced

Burnham pledged to put “place first” not party first, pledging to be a mayor for all voters, and added that devolution from central government must go further asking Westminster to “give us the powers to free ourselves from the grip of the housing crisis” and says he would champion a better benefits system.

Tracy Brabin meanwhile have been emphatically re-elected as Mayor of West Yorkshire,

Brabin increased her share of the vote 7.3 percentage points to 50.4%, with the Tories down 14 percentage points to 15.1%.

Steve Rotheram easily won meanwhile in Liverpool taking 68 per cent of the vote

Labour’s Sadiq Khan has won a third term as London mayor with a notable swing towards Labour.

The final results saw Khan win 1,088,225 votes to Tory rival Susan Hall’s 811,518 an 11.1 point lead

It’s his biggest lead yet.Khan beat Shaun Bailey in 2021 by 4.7 points and Zac Goldsmith in 2016 by 9.2 points.

Labour also won the West Midland’s Mayoral election after a recount which saw its candidate Richard Parker squeeze past the Tory incumbent Andy Street by a mere 1508 votes
