Wave-Field, the hugely popular travelling light installation will be embarking on a tour of the north of England, from October to December 2019.

The world famous interactive musical Seesaws will be kick-starting the UK tour at Light Night Leeds on the 10th of October, continuing on to Lightpool Festival (Blackpool), Crewe Town and finally Lightwaves Festival in Salford Quays on the 6-15 December.

Created by Lateral Office and CS Design, with soundscape by Mitchell Akiyama, the world-famous interactive art exhibition features illuminated musical seesaws that encourage interpersonal relationships with strangers and consolidate existing relationships between friends and family.

Wave-Field is intended as a playful installation that makes art accessible to all. Visitors are encouraged to become active participants in the art, as opposed to merely witnessing it as in a traditional gallery.

When motionless, the seesaws are dimly lit and emit a low sound, inviting passers-by to participate; when set in motion, the seesaws burst into sound and light which becomes richer as more visitors partner up, encouraging encounters and the development of relationships, new and old.

Lightwaves is a free interactive light festival, hosted by Quays Culture at Salford Quays: Home of MediaCityUK. The annual festival showcases inspiring digital light art, illuminating public spaces for 10 days from Friday 6th December until Sunday 15th December 2019.

Lightwaves festival features new and exclusively commissioned digital art installations from local, national, and international artists. The festival trail can be navigated via a free app, bringing light to those dark winter nights as light experiences span across Salford Quays and MediaCityUK.
