On Monday 17th October 2022, the team behind award winning street food venue GRUB will launch CAFF at First Street’s Food and Drink kiosk in Tony Wilson Place.

CAFF is proud to be ‘proper northern’ and will encapsulate the best elements of a classic sandwich shop – simple, comforting and delicious food served in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

“We’ve taken the classic northern butty shop that’s existed for generations and thrown it into the mix with our approach to supporting proper local producers.,” says Jason Bailey (Owner + Founder).“We can’t wait to give First Street and the people of Manchester a proper feed.”

CAFF aims to be refreshingly simple, without the complication of strict diets and the trend of avocado on everything, hence their slogan “no avo, no keto, just baps”. It’s just tasty and hearty food with classic northern flavours at its core served from 8am-3pm Monday-Friday.

The menu will contain classic British fayre such as freshly made breakfast rolls and traditional cold sandwiches alongside other grab and go convenience foods like pastries and snacks.

Jamie Hills, Development Director at Ask Real Estate, landowner and developer of the First Street Estate commented: “We’re pleased to support a local, independent business with CAFF. They will provide a quality and good value breakfast and lunch offering to the First Street neighbourhood, specialising in no-nonsense great butties. CAFF will add to our diverse mix of operators at First Street where we continue to attract new businesses and employers to the estate”.

First Street is a vibrant urban mixed-use neighbourhood located at the heart of Manchester and is a phased development which is being delivered by Ask Real Estate in partnership with Richardson.

First Street includes a cultural arts venue, HOME, the UK’s first Melia INNSIDE hotel, safe and welcoming areas of public green spaces and a 700-space car park operated by Q-Park. It also boasts an array of bars, restaurants and leisure venues including Indian Tiffin Room, WOOD, JunkYard Golf Club, The GasWorks Brewbar, Ribeye Steakhouse, Pizza Express, and Bunny Jacksons.

First Street is proving to be an eye-catching location for a broad mix of occupiers where office buildings, N01 and N08 have established the area as a thriving business location with companies including Auto Trader, Ford Credit Europe, engineering service provider Jacobs as well as WSP, Willis Towers Watson and ODEON, all choosing to locate there.

The expansion of the Estate is continuing apace; currently on site is Downing’s co-living scheme which will further enhance the residential options for young professionals wanting a city centre lifestyle, and the next commercial office building will be on site this summer.

CAFF will maintain an inclusive range, mirroring the standard offering with a vegan and gluten free option where possible. Ingredients will come from local, traditional, family-run butchers and bakers such as Robinsons Artisan Family Bakery of Failsworth or Littlewoods Butchers of Heaton Moor where possible. Catering and delivery options will be available for ‘office butty runs’, casual events or anyone who loves stuff in bread.
