School’s out for another summer, and as the good weather continues the Great Northern has launched a huge family-friendly sandpit to keep the kids entertained over the holidays.

Housed in the basin of the iconic amphitheater, the fun and free community sandpit is open for six weeks with 50 tonnes of beach-washed sand and logs to enjoy.

As the epicenter of the city’s world-famous industrial heritage, the Great Northern’s sandpit will revive the city’s historic tradition of creating free and safe play areas for children to play outdoors.

Whether shaped into castles, dug, sifted, or buried, sand offers endless opportunities for fun and learning.

Encourage young children to explore the sandpit and use their imagination, as they play and develop an array of skills like problem solving, sharing, and communicating, while accomplishing goals they set for themselves.

And when the sun goes in, the Great Northern is the perfect evening destination for families. Watch this summer’s must-see movie, Incredibles 2 at the state-of-the-art multiplex Odeon cinema, or hit the lanes at Manchester’s coolest bowling alley, All Star Lanes.

And after all that, why not feast on Almost Famous’ craziest new creation – the Big Red. The new addition has been crafted in partnership with Hellmans and layers the restaurant’s juicy famous double cheeseburger, smoky rich chipotle brisket, a beer battered onion ring, deep fried bacon, onion, pickle, Texan style BBQ sauce, peppered mayo, and famous sauce – a taste sensation!

Mark Schofield, Centre Director for Great Northern said: “We’re thrilled to launch this exciting addition to the Great Northern’s family offering this summer.

“We look forward to welcoming children to enjoy safe, free play over the school holidays.”

Parking at the Great Northern couldn’t be easier. Validate your ticket at the cinema as you watch a movie, allowing you to stay for up to four hours for only £2.
