Building on the phenomenal success of the last two years, Suffragette City will be
celebrating International Women’s Day 2020 as Manchester’s most established and hottest
event for the worldwide movement for woman’s rights.
Starting on Saturday 7 March 2020 and dancing their way into International Women’s Day
(Sunday 8) #SuffragetteCity2020 returns with a female-led all-day live music event at The
Refuge, to raise money for Greater Manchester women’s charities, including Women
Asylum Seekers Together (WAST).
Curated by one of the minds behind Manchester Digital Music Archive, Abigail Ward as
well as Rina Ladybeige (Social Service), Kath McDermott (BBC Radio 6 Music) & Chris
Massey Music (Electriks/Sprechen) the day and night party will boast a line-up of
upcoming and established female DJs playing multi-genre party starters in the basement
and public bar.
Last year the event raised over £3,000 and this year they hope to smash
that record as well as creating the same atmosphere of love, defiance and celebration.
Co-founder of Suffragette City, and MDMA, Abigail Ward, said: “We’re extremely proud
to have established Suffragette City as one of the most celebrated events in Manchester for
International Woman’s Day.
“At a time when refuges are suffering deep cuts and many women’s groups have to rely on
self-organisation to fundraise, coming together to make a difference is more important than ever. And of course this is an inclusive event – everyone is welcome!
“As well as continually programming the freshest line-up of the most talented DJs, and
raising awareness of the many barriers woman can face in the industry, we are happy that
all proceeds will be going to; Women Asylum Seekers Together in Greater Manchester
(WAST), Emmeline’s Pantry, Keeping our Girls Safe (KOGS) and Contact Hostel.”
#SuffragetteCity2020 will host two main live music line-ups on Saturday the 7th of March
