Six by Nico, the restaurant which changes its entre restaurant concept every six weeks has revealed that a taste of Tokyo will be coming to Six by Nico Manchester from the 27th February.
After travelling to Tokyo in January for a research trip, Chef Nico Simeone and team discovered a bounty of inspiration for their dishes, which have been adapted and curated to celebrate Japanese food and ingredients. Each dish on his classic six dish tasting menu concept has been inspired by a delicious discovery tasted on the trip – from Chicken Karaage to Nico’s take on the classic Ramen.
The new six-course offering highlights a range of iconic dishes from the region including Okonomiyaki – Pork & Prawn Pancake, Okonomi Sauce and Japanese Mayonnaise; Tonkotsu – Panko Pork Cutlet, Yakitori Ham, Glazed Belly, Cabbage and Hokkaido Pumpkin; and Strawberry Candy – White Chocolate Parfait, Matcha Cake and Candy Strawberry.
“Our challenge was to create a menu in seven days after our trip to Tokyo, after immersing ourselves with no preconceptions,” says chef and founder Nico Simeone. “With the taste of the ingredients and some of my favourite dishes still lingering in my mind, we were able to create a menu that we believe is our best to date. We went to Tokyo with an open mind and, to be honest, a very Westernised palate. Despite the fact that we only had three days in the city, our team has never left a place feeling so inspired to create a menu.”
The menu is priced at £37 per person with the option to enjoy an expertly selected wine and specialist drinks pairing for an additional £30. As always, there is a vegetarian alternative available for every course – with tasty alternatives including Karaage – Crispy Egg, Togarashi and Pickled Daikon, or Okonomiyaki – Savoury Kimchi Pancake, Okonomi Sauce and Japanese Mayonnaise.
