The Dean of Manchester was recently approached by the leader of a local mosque, expressing concern over the rise of Islamophobia and the challenges communities face.
The Dean was asked to bring cultural faith communities together to prevent isolation and the Peace and Unity Group was formed as a symbol of support and to build peace and unity in the city of Manchester.
On Sunday 17 July 2016 from 1.30pm to 5pm, members of the public are invited to attend ‘Peace and Unity, One Community’ at Manchester Town Hall. This is a multi-faith event which aims to bring people together to celebrate our cultural diversity in prayer, song, poetry, chanting and dance.
Guest speakers will include The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Carl Austin-Behan and the Interim Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd. There will be table discussions alongside cultural performances and refreshments will be served. The Dean of Manchester, The Very Reverend Rogers Govender will open the event which has been organised by Manchester Cathedral, Manchester City Council and representatives from faith and community groups across Greater Manchester. People of all faiths or none are welcome to attend this exciting community event.
