There are many advantages to choosing a camping holiday rather than going abroad or even staying at home. You’ll get fresh air, you’ll get to explore more, and it is a good opportunity to bond with friends and family. If you prefer to camp alone, it’s an ideal way to de-stress.

One thing that can stop camping from being so enjoyable and beneficial, and that might even stop people from considering it as an option in the first place, is the potential lack of sleep you’ll get. As notorious as camping can be for not allowing much sleep, there are many ways you can improve the situation and actually sleep well when you’re camping. Read on to find out what some of these ideas are.

Exercise During The Day

It makes sense that if you want to get a good night’s sleep, no matter whether you’re camping or at home, you should do plenty of exercise during the day. This will tire you out more quickly and use up the energy you have, meaning that by the time you want to go to bed, it will be a lot easier to settle down and get to sleep. It will also generally mean you can stay asleep through the night as well.

The great thing about camping is that you won’t be at a loss as to what to do to make yourself tired. You can hike, swim, run, climb, play games and sports, and a lot more. Make the most of your time in the wilderness (or at a campsite) and you’ll sleep much better.

Be Comfortable

Sleeping outside is not always going to be the most comfortable thing you can do. The ground won’t be soft and level in most cases, you might be cold, there could be a lot of noise, and there might also be insects that will bite and make you itchy.

This is why you need to make your sleeping area as comfortable as possible. Start with your bedding. A thick mattress can work wonders, but a hammock that raises you off the bumpy ground can also be a superb option. Also, make sure you have lots of layers, as this will keep you warmer.

In other words, do whatever it is that makes you comfortable and you’ll sleep better. This might mean experimenting with different options, but once you find what works for you, camping will become so much better.

Have A Regular Bedtime Routine

If you know anything about getting a good night’s sleep, you’ll know that you need a good, regular bedtime routine to ensure you get not only enough sleep (around seven to nine hours for an adult), but that you get good quality sleep too.

The same is true for camping. It can often be the case when you’re on holiday that your normal bedtime routine disappears – you’re doing different things and it can feel as though no routine is necessary. However, the more you can stick to your normal routine, the better you’ll sleep. Since a good night’s sleep means you’ll be more energetic and awake the next day, it’s definitely worth trying out.
