One of the city’s most beloved restaurants, El Gato Negro, has been crowned one of the top two Manchester restaurants at the National Restaurant Awards.

Having debuted on the Top 100 just three months after opening in 2016, the acclaimed tapas restaurant moves from 81 to 78 and is one of the two Manchester restaurants to be listed alongside Hispi in Didsbury.

Praise for El Gato Negro’s food and drink offer is not limited to industry experts. Since opening in February of last year, El Gato Negro has enjoyed significant success.

The King Street restaurant continues to experience unprecedented demand and has undergone an expansion to create a further 40 covers. The introduction of a ‘rapido’ lunch menu for diners tight on time has also been a roaring success.
Manchester’s discerning drinkers know that good food works even better when paired with a good drink and have been flocking to sample El Gato Negro’s extensive drinks menu including specialist gins, cocktails and sherry. A top floor restaurant complete with retractable roof has also been opened for private hire.

Speaking on the restaurant’s success, Chef Patron Simon Shaw said: “It’s been quite a journey over the past year and the success we’ve enjoyed so far has been nothing short of phenomenal. As a restaurateur, you have to gain a trust with your customers and I’m continuously blown away by the demand to dine here.

“Now the challenge is to keep the menu fresh and the specials exciting. We have no plans to sit back on our laurels thinking we’ve made it. This is just the start of an amazing journey.”
