Two weeks of annual celebration of community spirit through a diverse range of activities from talks and walks to concerts, gigs, exhibitions, trails, quizzes and performances with a spectacular lantern procession through The Torrs Gorge get underway this weeken in the Derbyshire setting of New Mills.

The New Mills Fest, which ends in a Community Street Party in the centre of town, includes a two week long Art Fest where more than 150 artists and 67 venues turn the town into a gallery and artists  from across the UK display their work in windows across New Mills for the duration of the two-week festival, Space theme Afternoon Teas, an exploding custard science show, desert island books, music, and mushroom foraging as well as walks and rambles.

 There will be a fundraising concert by X-Factor star Lucy Spraggan, a dynamic troupe of musicians called Patch and the Giant and the festival finale will be a magical evening parade of lanterns, designed around the festival theme of inventions, through the gorge beneath the town on September 24, and a street party afterwards with food from around the world.
