Two Greater Manchester pubs are celebrating national success after winning at this year’s Craft Union Operator Awards.
John Moxon, operator of the Beau Geste in Ashton-under-Lyne, took home ‘Best Newcomer’, while Tom Slattery, operator of The Vine in Sale, won ‘Best Sports Pub’.
The awards recognise pub operators at Craft Union Pub Company who go above and beyond to create thriving pubs at the heart of their communities.
The Beau Geste, which recently reopened in July following a huge six-figure investment, has become a community hub for the people of Ashton-under-Lyme.
Judges praised John for taking the Beau Geste, which was already an established local venue, to a new level of popularity within the community since his arrival at the pub last year.
His achievements include helping fundraise for charities, while retaining loyal customers and bringing in new guests, reflecting his strong knowledge of the local area.
John said: “We’re over the moon to receive this award. The Beau Geste has always been our passion, and to see our hard work recognised at this level is amazing.
“We’re proud to serve our local community, and it’s so rewarding to know our hard work over the last year has made a huge difference for our customers, team, and community.”
At The Vine, Tom Slatery has relentlessly pushed to make his pub the best place to watch the big game in Sale. Whether you’re a City or United fan, all are welcome at The Vine with the pub boasting a friendly but fun matchday atmosphere.
The Vine is the place to be on matchday, with kid’s entertainment, games, themed lighting, sweepstakes and regular live entertainment, it’s no wonder the pub is the home of sport in Sale.
Judges highlighted his impressive 30% sales growth and his ability to create a welcoming space for everyone.
And it’s not just football – F1, darts, cricket, rugby, horse racing, local leagues and even pig racing all feature on the calendar.
Tom said: “I’m absolutely delighted to win this award and it’s brilliant that Craft Union have recognised how popular our sports offering has been over the past 12 months.
“This has motivated us more than ever to keep pushing to make our sport-watching experience better than ever, with some exciting plans in the pipeline.”
