An investigation is underway after gunshots were fired at a property in Whitefield in the early hours of this morning.

A window and wall of a property were damaged on Coniston Avenue but officers currently believe that this was a targeted attack and there is no threat to the wider community.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Wright, of GMP’s Bury division, said: “I would like to start by offering some reassurance – incidents of this nature, understandably, create concerns in communities but we do believe this was a targeted attack and there is no threat to the wider community.

“Extensive enquiries are underway so members of the public should expect to see extra police officers in the area.

“Greater Manchester Police will not tolerate this kind of behaviour so we are committed to identifying those responsible and bringing them to justice. I would, therefore, like to use this opportunity to appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious or has any other information to contact us.”
