People have been gathering in Warrington for a service commemorating those killed and injured by an IRA bomb in the town, 30 years ago today.
Two children Tim Parry and Jonathan Ball were killed and dozens of people were injured.
Sir John Major, who was Prime Minister at the time, says the bombing made him consider whether there was any chance for peace in Northern Ireland – coming as children were out shopping for gifts and cards for Mother’s Day.
Colin Parry, whose twelve year old son Tim was one of those killed in 1993 said that the IRA turned his family from one which was a “family of five to a family of four.”
The IRA would claim responsibility for the bombs which were placed in two bins on Bridge Street
There was a minutes silence at 12.20pm to remember the victims.
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham’s and Liverpool Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram are also attending the event
