The new-look Netto store has opened its doors in Heaton Park.

The 11,248 sq ft store is one of the first stores to be launched as part of a trial over the next year in a joint venture between Sainsbury’s and Netto’s parent company, Dansk Supermarked.

The twenty five new local employees will open the doors today to a new, fresh design based on the latest Netto stores in Denmark.

It represents a complete departure from the format that left the UK market in 2010. The range of over 2,000 products has been created especially for the UK to give customers a new offer and challenge other stores in the discount sector. Netto will also offer around 60 weekly “Spot Deals”, when they’re gone, they’re gone, on both food and non-food products.

Every store will have an in-house bakery, fresh meat and produce will be delivered to the store every day. All fresh meat will be British and Netto will offer seasonal British fruit and vegetables sourced at the highest quality for a great price.

New ranges have been specially created for the UK stores under own-label brands “Premieur” at the top end and “Easy” for everyday items, as well as established brands from Netto’s existing portfolio like “Asian Kitchen” and “Mex & Co”.

The store will also sell around 100 of the most popular brands and stylish non-food products sourced from Denmark and around the world.

Netto UK will be led by Morten Möberg Nielsen, previously Managing Director of Netto in Germany, whose successful track record spans 18 years in retail including 14 years with Dansk Supermarked.

Commenting on the launch Morten Möberg Nielsen said:

“We are very excited to be opening this store in Heaton Park today. We’re Denmark’s favourite supermarket and with the discount model coming of age in the UK, we believe this new-look store with our fresh product range, great bakery and Scandinavian treats offers something really unique.
