Miller Homes has submitted a planning application for 282 new homes on the former Itron gas meter factory in Talbot Road, Stretford near Old Trafford.

The factory has lain empty since Itron closed the facility at the end of 2016 and under the plans, the brownfield site will make way for a bespoke development of homes featuring a bold, urban contemporary design.

The development, designed by Manchester-based Calderpeel Architects, will support the wider regeneration masterplan for Stretford, which aims to transform the area into a prosperous and vibrant place through new and improved facilities, creating attractive communities and opening up its potential throughout the day and evening.

David Brackley, Technical Director atMiller Homes North West, said: “This is a very exciting time for Stretford with the ambitious masterplan set to truly transform the area into a desirable and sought after location for living, leisure and learning.

“We are delighted to submit our plans for the redevelopment of the Itron site in Stretford into a stylish development of contemporary new homes, complementing the wider masterplan.

“Our plans have been well considered and we believe the design and range of accommodation we are proposing will provide attractive new housing opportunities for those already living in the area as well as helping entice more people to become part of a vibrant new community.”

Working collaboratively with Places Matter!, Miller Homes’ proposed development will provide a unique contemporary urban masterplan and architectural aesthetic which works contextually well with the development’s location on the periphery of Manchester city centre.

The proposed development will cater for a wide mix of potential home owners, with 91, two to four bedroom homes designed specifically for families and 191, studio and one to two bedroom apartments, suitable for young professionals, students and overseas investors looking to establish a foothold in the North West.  Designed using the same architectural language, both the apartments and houses will perfectly complement one another providing cohesion across the development.

Mark Massey, director of Calderpeel Architects, commented: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Miller Homes to bring forward this high-quality, bespoke development. It’s contemporary and cutting-edge, while complementing Stretford’s existing urban grain. It’s a scheme that’s been crafted to do justice to such a prominent site that lies between two major gateways into the city centre.”
