Whether it’s the treachery of Brutus, the cunning of Lady Macbeth or the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s plays continue to inspire people of all ages.
And thanks to Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival a new generation of thespians were introduced to the Bard’s timeless work as part of National Shakespeare Week.
At Rochdale Central Library, Oldham Coliseum Theatre’s education department ran an interactive workshop showcasing one of the great man’s best loved stories.
Councillor Daalat Ali, the council’s cabinet member for libraries, said: “Shakespeare’s work is a literature gift that just keeps giving. It was fantastic to see so many children enjoying the Bard’s timeless plays and plotlines.
“I would like to thank Oldham Coliseum Theatre’s education department for putting on such an accessible and enjoyable performance, which showed such stuff on which dreams are made of.”
Shakespeare Week is a national annual celebration which was launched in 2014 by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, to give primary school children contact with Shakespeare from a young age.
