A 77 year old man has died in hospital after being involved in the incident where where the driver of a BMW i3 suffered a suspected medical episode and collided with five other vehicles.

Four people, including two drivers and two passengers, were taken to hospital at the time.

James Swinscoe was one of the victims and died in hospital on 17 May 2026.

When sharing a heartfelt tribute about her loving dad James’ daughter said: “My dad brought Joy to everyone that was lucky enough to meet him and will be very much missed by the many people that knew him.

“I am extremely proud of my him, he has been so brave and strong with everything he has been through. It is comforting to know my mum and dad where together and had each other during the incident and were able to spend their last moments together and that brings me some peace.

“I want dad to be remembered for being kind-hearted and fun loving, he had a lot to live for. I am grateful that he had a lust for life, he loved to laugh it brought us so much joy.

“He was kind and appreciative, staff have gone above and beyond, and family was to see mum and dad at the end. The hospital has gone above and beyond, I appreciate all that they have done and are still doing for my mother.”

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit continue their investigation and are urging anyone with information to please come forward.

This includes anyone who saw the vehicle driving before the collision, witnessed the incident itself, or has dashcam footage of the incident.
