The jury has been discharged after failing to reach verdict in case of two brothers accused of assaulting police officer at Manchester Airport.
Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, were both accused of assaulting armed PC Zachary Marsden. The jury failed to reach a verdict after 20 hours of deliberation. The men deny the charges.
In the original 2025 trial, Amaaz was convicted of headbutting civilian Abdulkareem Ismaeil at a Starbucks in the terminal and assaulting two female officers, one of whom suffered a broken nose.
The defence maintained that the brothers acted in self-defence, claiming they feared for their lives and believed excessive force was being used.
In a statement GMP said:
While we are disappointed a verdict could not be reached today, we respect the outcome of the court process. We will continue to do what we can to support what happens next, in the interests of the officers affected and the public.”
