We conducted our own test using google data, and figured out the best time to shop in the Lidl stores above in Manchester city centre, Oldham, Salford and Rochester. Given that the priority of most people at the moment is to shop as safely as possible due to Covid-19, we’ve based our idea of the ‘best time to shop at Lidl’ on the times that these stores are quietest for shoppers, to reduce the transmission of Covid-19. The best time to shop in the Wilmslow Road Lidl in Manchester City Centre is before 11am and after 8pm during the week, before 11am and after 7pm on Saturday, and before 11am on Sunday. This Lidl store is always at least a little busy after 11am, right up until it closes at 4pm on Sunday, so it’s a good idea to go before 11am if you want a quiet shop.

The best time to shop at the Chester Road Lidl in Manchester City Centre is before 11am and after 7pm during the week, as this is when the store is least busy. If you’re shopping on Saturday, aim for before 9am and after 7pm. On Sundays, the store is a little busy right after it opens at 10am, however, it only gets busier as the day goes on, so the quietest time to shop is still the hour between 10am and 11am.

For the best time to shop at the Spotland Road Lidl in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, you should aim for before 10am and after 6pm, Monday to Thursdays. Fridays are a little busier in the late afternoon and evening, so go for before 10 am and after 7pm on Friday – 3 and 4pm is as busy as it gets on Friday, so it’s good to avoid these hours if you want a quieter shop. Go between 10am and after 7pm on Saturday and between 10am and 11am on Sunday, as the store will be busy after then, right up until its 4pm Sunday closing time.

The best time to shop at the Jardine Way Lidl in Oldham, Greater Manchester, is before 10am and after 6pm during the week, except for Fridays, when you should aim for before 9am and after 7pm, as the store is busier with people doing their weekend shop. The best time to shop at the Jardine Way Lidl on Saturday is before 10am and after 6pm, and on Sunday, go right after it opens at 10am, because it stays busy after 11am until closing time.

What are the Covid safety measures in Lidl in Manchester at the moment?

Lidl have taken several safety measures in light of Covid-19, which you’ll need to follow when you visit any Lidl store in Manchester or the UK. The measures include:

  • Shopping alone. Unless you are unable to shop without an adult, only one member per household is expected to shop at Lidl, to reduce the number of people int he store and facilitate social distancing.
  • Bakery changes. There are now disposable gloves in the bakery, for you to bag loose items without having to touch anything with your bare hands (as well as the fact that there are tongs – use them!). This will help reduce the transmission of Covid-19.
  • Wearing a face covering in store. You are expected to wear a face mask or face covering at all times within Lidl stores, unless you are exempt.

We know that the best time to shop at Lidl in Manchester doesn’t necessarily mean the quietest time, but rather the best time to snag those reduced items! We all dream of finding a sirloin steak with a yellow sticker reducing it to 20p, or an entire tray of fancy cupcakes for pennies.

Well, the good thing about Lidl is that you can probably combine an early morning quiet shop with a fistful of yellow stickered loot. While many supermarkets leave it literally seconds to midnight to reduce any items (we’ve all waited like awkward vultures behind a staff member doing snail-paced reductions just as the store is closing), Lidl start reducing their prices from the start of the day. So, look out for those cheap prices whenever you’re at the store!

How to save money at Lidl in Manchester

Lidl stores in Manchester and the UK don’t just resort to reducing items past their sell by date. You can pick up useful deals every week at Lidl, regardless of whether you managed to snatch a package of burgers two minutes before its expiry date. Lidl has a pick of the week section on its website, where it shows you the best reduced price deals on meat and veg. The new deals appear each Thursday, so make sure you keep checking each week.

There’s also ‘Middle of Lidl’, where Lidl unveil new deals on anything from gardening gear to baby clothes. Lidl also sells a ‘wonky veg box’, which is £1.50 per 5kg, where you can get discounted vegetables that would otherwise go to waste.
