Foodies, behold!

The Great Northern and Eat Well MCR have announced a triple threat takeover of the Community Kitchen on the Square this weekend with not just one, or two, but three unique menus to indulge in.

From today, expect an eclectic mix of cuisines from a collective of brilliant Manchester-based operators, from the non-profit organisation Eat Well MCR; featuring Things Palace on Friday, ARMR Store on Saturday and The Creameries on Sunday.

Eat Well MCR has prepared and delivered over 20,000 meals to NHS workers and vulnerable people in Manchester since forming in April 2020. Diners can add a voluntary £1 donation to Eat Well MCR onto their bill to continue help Eat Well MCR to providing delicious meals to those in our local community who need them.

Kicking off with Things Palace, chef Lorcan Kan, combines his Malaysian heritage and his experience from around the globe into his menu. From Kari Pap, a Malaysian pastry snack filled with roasted pumpkin and dulse seaweed, to Kari Ayam, a traditional Malaysian chicken and potato curry, every dish reflects the Eat Well MCR commitment to fresh seasonal ingredients.

On Saturday, ARMR Store brings its plant-based, Caribbean inspired goodness to the party. Each dish is meat-free and includes organic ingredients that are packed with flavour. Enjoy a roast broccoli & pumpkin curry or jackfruit burger with garlic and dill mayo, red pepper relish and a hash brown and add loaded fries with a selection of toppings if you’re feeling hungry.

Closing the weekend, and ahead of their long-awaited reopening next week, The Creameries will take over the pop-up kitchen, serving up the simple, elegant savoury dishes which Eat Well MCR founder Mary Ellen McTague is famous for. Featuring a Grilled Cheese made with much loved Ogleshield and served with sauerkraut, to a Rabbit Pie with black peas & vinegar, expect a selection of unique dishes accompanied by a handpicked wine list of Creameries faves to wash it all down.

The Great Northern Community Kitchen x Eat Well MCR collaboration will be open from 12:00 -21:00 Friday to Sunday. No need to book, simply pop down and enjoy drinks and food outdoors either solo or with the rest of your household.

The pop-up restaurant on the square provides a Covid-secure space for local businesses that are restricted with limited outdoor dining space. The weekly takeovers allow these restaurants to serve up their delicious cuisine right in the heart of Manchester.

All diners will experience table service to reduce close contact and ensure social distancing to kept at all times.

Joining the pop-up experience, the Great Northern is also welcoming Didsbury Gin. Born in Manchester, Didsbury Gin is an award-winning gin producer with a range of bright, vibrant and zesty gins, including Raspberry & Elderflower and Blood Orange & Ginger. Didsbury Gin will be available from the bar for visitors to enjoy with their choice of tonic.

We’re really excited about our guests at this weekend’s Community Kitchen. Not only do we have three outstanding menus to choose from but diners will also have the option to donate to Eat Well MCR which is a really worthy local cause.”
