Four people have been injured after a car they were in crashed after being chased by police

The Audi A6 was spotted travelling at speed on the M60 motorway in the early hours of this morning and failed to stop for police who lost sight of the vehicle and subsequently found it a short time later on its roof on Bury Old Road, opposite Heaton Park.

The driver of the Audi, a 20-year-old man, was taken to hospital. He remains there in a stable condition and is thought to have minor injuries and will be discharged shortly.

Three passengers, women aged 21, 25 and 22, have also been taken to hospital with minor injuries. All three women remain there in a stable condition but will be released shortly.

Detective Inspector Richard Thompson, of GMP’s Professional Standards Branch, said: “The fact a car has ended up on its roof may seem concerning to members of the public, but thankfully no one was seriously injured in this incident.

“In line with normal policy this incident has been reviewed to determine if it needs to be referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) by GMP’s Professional Standards Branch”

“While the investigation is in its early stages, I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone who witnessed anything and can assist enquiries.

“A scene is currently in place on Bury Old Road and is likely to remain throughout the day while investigation work is carried out.”
