Two of the city’s most loved homegrown brands are set to join the indie food and drink destination at the Kampus garden neighbourhood next week. With the lighter nights finally here, the spring and summer season at the Manchester canalside beer garden will officially begin on the long Easter Weekend (from Friday 7 April).

For the first time, for its biggest ever summer line-up, there’ll be tables and chairs laid out amongst the giant tree ferns and palms, where visitors can enjoy the delights of the surrounding food businesses– including Nell’s Pizza, Pollen, Great North Pie, The Beeswing wine bar and Yum Cha.

The neighbourhood (developed by Capital&Centric and HBD) is also welcoming two new brands for a summer-long run; SEVEN BRO7HERS Brewing Co and Three Little Words. Both will be there on Friday 7 April to kick-start an Easter Weekender of booze, beats and eats in store – Nell’s Pizza will also be joined by guest DJs throughout the weekend.

Seven Bro7hers Residency

SEVEN BRO7HERS will open the doors to a brand beerhouse in the red-brick Minshull Warehouse at Kampus, with indoor seating in the listed building as well as sheltered outdoor spots overlooking the garden.

This summer residency is the latest move for the brewery – founded in Salford in 2014 by the seven McAvoy brothers, inspired by their dad’s home-brewing in their cellar. They’ll be offering the brewery’s popular range of beers, plus a few Kampus specials.

Starting as they mean to go on, they’ll be part of the Kampus Easter weekender, with a series of live acoustic sets and funk and soul DJs bringing the party vibes.

Keith McAvoy, CEO for SEVEN BRO7HERS, said: “We’ve been big fans of Kampus for a while so we jumped at the chance to put on a summer-long party and create a new beerhouse here. The historic setting is stunning and we know we’ll create, hands down, the best beer garden in Manchester.

“We’re a family run business, born here in Greater Manchester. Our Kampus run is a fitting celebration for how far the brewery has come with the incredible support of every person who’s ever enjoyed a SEVEN BRO7HERS pint. We’ll be in good company with our brilliant independent neighbours and encourage everyone to come spend summer with us.”

They’ll be open Thursday – Sunday every week all summer.

Three Little Words Residency

Luxurious cocktail bar Three Little Words opened in 2019 by Seb & Jen Heeley-Wiggins, the founders of Manchester Gin. It’s since won awards for its signature menu of innovative cocktails – served up under the Watson Street arches as part of The Spirit of Manchester Distillery.

They’re now bringing their world-class menu to the Kampus Bungalow and garden, with visitors able to kick-back and sip their stunning mixes in the summer sun. They’ll have both indoor seating in the elevated Bungalow and outdoor spots along the water’s edge.

Guests can sip exceptional cocktails made up from their portfolio of multi award-winning spirits. All their spirits are created by the team right in the heart of the city, including well-loved brands such as their range of Manchester Gin, One-Eyed Rebel Spiced Rum and their latest brand Sphere Vodka.

As well as premium cocktails and the freshest ingredients as standard, they’re promising a summer of surprises – with rotating events to mark the UK summer’s biggest celebrations, special events and serves based around their line of spirits, and a garden spritz bar in a somewhat unconventional form! Seb Heeley-Wiggins, Master Distiller & Co-Owner The Spirit of Manchester Distillery & Three Little Words, said: “We’ve got such a loyal following and we’ve been on the hunt for a spot where people could enjoy our cocktails in a beautiful outdoor setting … spritzes in the sunshine. Kampus absolutely fits that bill and will be an incredible summer posting for our team. We’ll be bringing our signature menu as well as some seasonal creations unique to Kampus.

“There’s so much going at the neighbourhood that we’ll be in good company. We’ve already got celebrations planned throughout the summer months, where we’ll be collaborating with incredible brands and creatives, and we’ve got a big surprise in store for next month. We just need a long, hot summer now.”

As standard, they’ll be open Wednesday to Sunday every week all summer, as well as Bank Holiday Mondays and other days when good weather is forecast.

Summer at Kampus

The season is a major moment for Kampus, the first year when the neighbourhood will have a full force of eclectic independent operators fully trading.

More names are set to join too. Red Light will lift the curtain on the insta-friendly Little David Street LGTBQ+ cocktail den, with the opening date to be revealed in the coming weeks, whilst taqueria and mezcaleria Madre is currently fitting out its space ready to bring its take on Mexican goodness to Manchester.

Adam Higgins, co-founder of Capital&Centric, said: “T-shirt weather is calling and we’ve assembled a pretty incredible line-up for the first proper summer at Kampus, where we’ll have nine indie food and drink businesses all based within and around the Kampus garden. There’ll be a real festival vibe, with people able to hop from place to place and try what’s on offer, or sit in the garden and let it come to them.

“As well as the permanent names and the summer-long residencies, there’ll also be loads of pop-ups events, DJs, live music and parties throughout the spring and summer. We’ve got the best beer garden in Manchester at Kampus and, with this line-up, you can guarantee that whether it’s a sun-soaked day or more familiar Manchester rain, punters will have a good time when they head down.”
