This National Recycling Week (19th – 25th September), reception children at St Mary’s CofE Primary School in Moss Side, took part in a very special week of educational fun-filled activities. The local school teamed up with one of the UK’s leading doll brands, BABY born and educational resource provider, iChild, to be ambassadors for the week.

Children at the school were gifted an array of the best-loved BABY born Magic Dolls and activity packs full of recycling-themed tasks for littles ones to learn more about looking after the world they live in, making play part of their education!

To introduce children to the world of recycling, the week was filled with activities varying from creating models from recycled packaging, decorating recycled yoghurt posts and containers with BABY born character cut-outs to transform them into plant pots, creating bird feeders using recycled kitchen roll tube and embarking on a nature walk to learn about their surroundings.

To close the week, children took home certificates once they completed the BABY born Recycle Week activities, including a discount code for parents.

Speaking of the experience, Reception Teacher at St Mary’s CofE Primary School, Amy Stoba said: “This was the second time we’ve had BABY born come into our school for this activity week and we hope it’s not the last. The children absolutely love taking part in the week and get so excited seeing the new toys. What’s more, we also got to keep the dolls and props and the children have been playing with them ever since!”

Kasia Leskow, Head of Marketing for Zapf UK added: “We’ve been delighted to work with St Mary’s CofE as part of our recycling programme with iChild. The partnership is a brilliant example of how we can link doll play with education, allowing us to support children’s development whilst sparking their imaginations with our best-loved dolls. We’re also very excited to be promoting such a great topic of recycling and sustainability, with our ongoing plastic free packaging pledge, the campaign aligns brilliantly with our brands core values.”

The brand is on a mission to remove single-use plastic from all of its packaging by the end of 2022, and as part of this promise, BABY born is proud to have already eliminated over 40 tonnes (and still rising) of single use plastic! You can read more about their plastic-free pledge here.

To replicate BABY born’s recycle week activities in your own home, nursery or school setting, resources are available on the iChild website for all members to download and utilise which you can find here.
