The staff and residents at a Sale care home are spreading a little seasonal cheer this month with a festive donation of food parcels and Christmas cards to their local Salvation Army.
After such a difficult year for so many, the team at New Care’s Ashlands Manor Care Centre, on Ashlands, is hoping to make a small difference for some of the most needy, vulnerable and lonely in its immediate local community with a donation of essential food items and homemade Christmas cards with handwritten messages of seasonal goodwill that will hopefully spread a little festive cheer.
The food items have been collected by the staff who have all purchased a number of products to donate while the care home’s residents have been busy crafting, cutting and sticking to create a collection of beautiful handmade cards that they have then personalised with individual messages of faith and friendship in these difficult times.
Wellbeing coordinator at Ashlands Manor, Louise Wild, commented: “With recent events affecting so many people in our local community, ourselves in the care home no exception, we contacted our local Salvation Army to see how we could be of help this Christmas.
“The team had already had the idea to collect essential food items, and our residents wanted to reach out to those who may be isolating or spending Christmas without their loved ones. The Salvation Army has put the two ideas together and will deliver our food parcels and Christmas cards to those most in need this year.”
Prior to the pandemic, the residents at Ashlands Manor were regular visitors to the Salvation Army on Ashton Lane in Sale and are delighted to continue their relationship in this way during lockdown
Ashlands Manor resident Margaret Stone said: “While Christmas is a special time of year, and wonderful when spent with family and friends, it can also be lonely for many, especially this year with travel restrictions and concerns about potentially spreading the virus when mixing with loved ones. We hope our cards and messages show that there is always someone thinking about others, and that hopefully, in time, this situation will be over and we can enjoy some sort of normality again.”
Community manager at the Salvation Army, Rachel Steward, added: “The Salvation Army is a Christian church and charity that works at the heart of local communities to support and help disadvantaged people. We appreciate donations of all kinds to help facilitate our work and are grateful to all at Ashlands Manor for their kind donations which I am certain will bring comfort and support to those most in need.”
