A collection of works by wildlife sculptor, Steve Winterburn, will be exhibited at a Manchester gallery from this weekend.

The exhibition, taking place at Castle Fine Art on King Street, will run from Saturday 27th October until Sunday 25th November.

Winterburn’s sculptures have previously been sold in Harrods and Selfridges, and are inspired by his travels to India, Peru, Kenya and Australia. They are the result of years of experimentation, and see him combine an innate understanding of engineering and design with a desire to continually challenge himself as a sculptor.

The artist began teaching himself to sculpt in 1994, initially entrusting established foundries with the casting of his bronzes. He later decided to begin personally shaping each piece himself from concept to completion, and set out to gain an understanding of the entire process, which is traditionally a closely guarded secret handed down between foundry men.

Winterburn has exhibited his work at many prestigious galleries in the UK throughout his career, including Halcyon Gallery on London’s Bruton Street and The Royal Academy.

Steve Winterburn said: “Over the years I have experimented with contemporary art including figurative work and my style has evolved.  It has progressed from ‘modelled’ work with a great amount of detail, to my current collection which is a lot looser.

“I now understand the anatomy and have gained confidence in my work and this has allowed me to be more expressive with my art.”

Nic Beese, gallery manager at Castle Fine Art, Manchester, said: “This is the first time we are exhibiting Steve’s work here in Manchester and it’s unlike anything else we’ve displayed.

“The sculptures are extremely striking and intricate, and it’s impossible not to be impressed by them, especially knowing that Steve works on each one from start to finish. We look forward to welcoming visitors to the gallery to appreciate the collection for themselves.”
