Former  manager at Bolton Wanderers Stan Anderson has died at the age of eighty five.

A two-time England international, Stan played over 500 league appearances for Sunderland, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough during his playing days before enjoying managerial spells with the Teessiders, AEK Athens, Queens Park Rangers and Doncaster Rovers before he joined Bolton Wanderers asIan Greaves’ assistant manager in November 1978.

He briefly served as caretaker manager in January 1980 before being handed the job permanently the following month, and remained in charge until the end of the 1980/81 season.
