England is set to go head-to-head with Uruguay in the Rugby World Cup 2015 in Manchester this October – for the home nation’s only group match outside London.
And to mark the countdown to this auspicious game the Webb Ellis Cup will be on display at Manchester Central Library on Monday 27 July from 8-10am.
The Webb Ellis Cup is the trophy awarded to the winner of the Rugby World Cup, the premier competition in men’s international rugby union.
Central Library will be offering a chance for sports fans to take a photo with the cup, one of international rugby’s most recognisable icons that is coveted by the world’s very best players.
And visitors to the Central Library event will have the chance to win tickets to the sold-out match taking place at Manchester City Stadium in October.
Fans will also have the opportunity to meet former England and Sale Sharks star Mark Cueto along with England Rugby 2015 Chairman Andy Cosslett and Managing Director Stephen Brown – who will all be on hand in the library.
Councillor Rosa Battle, Manchester City Council executive member for culture and leisure, said: “The anticipation across the city for this landmark rugby game is overwhelming and sports fans are already counting down the days.
“For anyone who is struggling to contain their excitement the chance to stand next to the most prestigious prize in rugby will be unmissable. For most of us this will be the closest we ever get to the internationally revered Webb Ellis Cup.”
The Webb Ellis Cup will be on display in Manchester Central Library on Monday 27 July from 8-10am. Members of the public can drop in to view the cup and the first 100 visitors through the doors will be served a free breakfast .
The cup is currently touring the country and will also be on display at the National Football Museum on Saturday 25 July from 11am -4pm and at Broughton Park FC, Chorlton, during their Touch Rugby Festival on Monday 27 July from 6-8pm.
England will take on Uruguay in the Rugby World Cup 2015 at Manchester City Stadium, east Manchester on Saturday 10 October 2015.
