As part of its support for Mental Health Awareness Week, Manchester Arndale is running a special event this weekend to help shoppers discover gentle and fun ways to relax.

On Saturday 19 May, Exchange Court will be transformed into The Breathing Space – a breakout area offering a range of 20 minute sessions throughout the day. With experts citing exercise as a fantastic way to boost self-esteem and help you concentrate, sleep and feel better, the event includes bitesize Hatha Yoga and Tai Chi classes for beginners – with trained instructors giving a flavour of each practice before you try at home or find a class in your local area.

For those wanting to have a go at something a little different, the event will also feature two Laughter Yoga sessions led by local coach Robin Graham. Experts from the Lush store will also be at The Breathing Space throughout the day to provide advice on holistic ways to relax, and offer hand massages.

Shoppers taking part in the event will be asked to give a minimum £1 donation to Manchester Arndale’s current charity star, Moodswings. Moodswings is an award-winning Manchester based mental health charity.

Founded in 1999, Moodswings works to help people recover from mood problems and the severe emotional distress they can cause. From its centre in Manchester, the Moodswings team reaches out across the North West and beyond to support individuals on a one-to-one basis, as well as their families and friends. As part of its programme, the charity also offers a range of social classes including fitness, drama and craft, to help people relax and become more mindful about their feelings and tensions on a day-to-day basis.
