Last year, Busty Beatz and Lisa Fa’alafi of global smash hit Hot Brown Honey, along with movement director and choreographer Yami ‘Rowdy’ Löfvenberg, teamed up with The Roundhouse in London to scour the capital to bring together an extraordinary league of femmes of colour.

The result is Hive City Legacy, a collaboration between The Roundhouse and Australian production company Quiet Riot, producers of Hot Brown Honey, which opens HOME in Manchester’s autumn theatre season, running Tuesday 3 – Saturday 7 September 2019.

In this political twerk of art, a league of eight extraordinary femmes are set to challenge, uplift and celebrate, as they tackle issues across race, sexuality and mental health in an unapologetic, and genre defying performance.

With over 250 applications for the paid opportunity from young artists aged 18 – 25, with skills ranging across circus, beat-boxing, spoken word, cabaret, dance and everything in between, Hive City Legacy burst onto The Roundhouse stage for a sell-out two-week run in 2018. Now, after a return season this year and a national tour, Hive City Legacy are ready to Activate Liberate and Pollinate HOME Manchester. Make way for the Matriarchy!

Hot Brown Honey are a fierce collective of femmes of colour from Australia. The company are in the midst of a world pollination tour smashing stereotypes in Canada, North America and at home in Australia. As creators of the show and leaders of the fierce Hot Brown Honey ensemble, Busty Beatz is Musical Director and Queen Bee, and Lisa Fa’alafi is director, designer, choreographer and performer.

“We are so excited for Hive City Legacy to perform at HOME,” says Lisa Fa’alafi. “We felt privileged to be a part of bringing these superhero Femmes stories to the stage – having the opportunity to tour ensures our work to decolonise one stage at a time continues. It’s time to Activate, Pollinate and Liberate, and you are all invited to be a part of shifting the paradigm!”
