Trafford’s invaluable historical archives will be now be preserved digitally thanks to a generous donation.

The North Cheshire Family History Society has donated £575 enabling the council’s Local Studies service to buy a digital scanner.

This vital piece of equipment will help preserve thousands of fragile archival documents by carefully copying them for future generations to study.

Local Studies Specialist Karen Cliff said some of the material dates back to the 1500s when Elizabeth 1 was on the throne.

“We’re very grateful to the local society for this donation which will allow us to buy a scanner that will maintain the integrity of our treasured documents.
“Our archives, which have been donated over many years, form an invaluable record of Trafford’s history. Some relate to land disputes, others about our residents who fought in the Great War. They are a vital local resource and we hold them on behalf of the public.”
