Some people seek high sensation experiences, from skydiving to bungee jumping, because these activities can make you feel alive.

However, if you want an adrenaline boost, there are other ways to get it – one of them being through gaming.

Looking to find the best experiences for gamers, OnBuy Gaming sought to find out which are the horror-themed games that raise our heartbeats the most.

To find that out they looked at some of the highest-rated horror-themed games and asked 872 brave people to play them for the first time whilst wearing a heart rate measurement device.

The OnBuy Gaming study reveals the most terrifying game is Phasmophobia, raising the heart rate of respondents to a whopping 137 BPM! Whist this co-op game was released in September 2020, it instantly became a hit with adrenaline-seeking gamers.

Respondents playing this game experienced great unease associated with the suspense built throughout it. From EMF readers going on five to screams and apparitions, Phasmophobia is a great game to get an adrenaline rush!

In second place is the classic Amnesia: The Dark Descend, raising heart rates to an impressive 133 BPM. This game is not for the faint-hearted, with a 10/10 rating on the platform Steam, you might be better off watching other people’s playthroughs! In fact, famous YouTuber PewDiePie has gathered millions of views on his videos playing Amnesia from people who like adrenaline, but not enough to play the game themselves.

In third place is another horror game classic, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, raising the heartbeat of people playing to 129 BPM. Surviving this game will not be easy, but for adrenaline junkies, it is a great way to have fun!

Layers of Fear comes in fourth place (129 BPM), followed by F.E.A.R in fifth place (126 BPM) and Outlast in sixth place (122 BPM).

The multiplayer horror game Dead by Deadlight comes in seventh place (119 BPM), followed by the one and only Slender: The Eight Pages in eighth place (114 BPM) – this game, in particular, has been giving people nightmares since 2012.

In ninth place is the famous Until Dawn, raising the heartbeats of those playing to 109 BPM. Whilst many people have fallen in love with the actor Rami Malek, who plays Joshua Washington in the game, they were equally terrified by the creepy storyline and the wendigos chasing them. Alongside the adrenaline rush, many players experienced the frustration of having a character die, knowing they could have saved them.

Lastly, in 10th place, we have a game which will shock you to your core: Doki Doki Literature Club!,raising the respondents’ heartbeats to 98 BPM. Whist this game starts out sweet and innocent, it quickly takes a dark turn.
