With just one day to go before voting begins, it seems that the result of the Gorton and Denton by election is too close to call
The latest opinion poll released yesterday showed the Greens and Labour tied neck and neck with 28 per cent of the vote with Reform just a point behind
Again it must be noted that it was a very small sample of voters with just 401 people spoken to between the 16th and the 24th February
Labour have come under fire to their response to the poll reproducing the graph of voter intentions but removing the Green’s bat telling voters the choice was between themselves and Reform
Meanwhile Labour’s General Secretary told an all-staff call that the Greens have no chance of winning the Gorton and Denton by-election on Thursday
“The Green Party are clearly high on the Class A drugs they want to legalise if they think they’re in this race. We know they’re not. They know they’re not. Our promise rate is very strong and we’re seeing lots of anti-Reform undecideds come over to Labour. A vote for the Greens is a vote for Tommy Robinson’s candidate – Matt Goodwin”
Controversy continues in the campaign in the closing hours with the Greens accused of stoking up racial hatred by Labour
The allegations come after Hannah Spencer, the Green candidate, has distributed leaflets in Gorton & Denton in Urdu, saying that voters should “make Labour pay” and accusing them of pushing “racist, dog whistle gutter policies”.
On the leaflet, she is wearing a keffiyeh, the Middle Eastern scarf commonly associated with Palestine.
Earlier in the week the Greens circulated a campaign video in Urdu accusing Matt Goodwin, the Reform UK candidate, of being someone who will “fuel the flames of Islamophobia”.
