Manchester’s ever-evolving dining scene enters a new chapter with the arrival of Sticks’n’Sushi in Spinningfields, marking the Copenhagen-born restaurant group’s first venture in the city.

Known for its distinctive blend of Japanese culinary precision with contemporary Scandinavian design, the restaurant introduces the brand’s signature combination of creative sushi and grilled sticks to one of Manchester’s most dynamic neighbourhoods.

Founded in Copenhagen in 1994, Sticks’n’Sushi creates a relaxed, sharing-style dining experience that is central to the restaurant’s philosophy known as Omotenashi – the Japanese spirit of wholehearted hospitality – which informs everything from the menu to the welcoming atmosphere of the dining room.

The menu highlights signature dishes that have defined the brand, presented in a visually striking photo-led format that brings each dish to life for guests. Small plates include beef tataki with miso aioli, artichoke chips with shiitake & truffle ponzu, and kani korokke – crisp crab croquettes served with wasabi Caesar. Sushi remains at the heart of the offering, from signature maki rolls such as the Hell’s Kitchen topped with tuna, to nigiri, sashimi and handrolls.

From the grill, the sticks showcase classic flavours, including miso-marinated black cod and chicken meatballs glazed with teriyaki. For a broader experience, curated sharing menus – As Good As It Gets, Set For Success , and Greenkeeper – bring together sushi, starters, and grilled dishes in perfectly balanced combinations.

Drinks continue the blend of tradition and modernity, with a list spanning premium sake and Japanese teas to contemporary cocktails, including favourites such as the Hibiscus Margarita and Matcha & Yuzu Spritz, alongside wine, beer, and the brand’s own yuzu pale ale.

Occupying a prominent two-storey corner site, the Manchester restaurant has been designed by Berlin-based architects Diener & Diener. The interiors balance Japanese architectural influences with the warmth of Scandinavian materials, where timber, glass and soft lighting create a calm, light-filled dining room that effortlessly transitions from daytime lunches to evening drinks. Outside, a pergola-covered terrace and bar extend the experience into one of the city’s liveliest districts with a design palette of deep purples and rich oranges that creates a warm atmosphere from day to night.

Sticks’n’Sushi’s arrival in Manchester promises more than a meal. It offers a design-led, socially engaging dining experience, bringing international flair and the spirit of Japanese hospitality to one of the UK’s most exciting food destinations.
