The Prime Minister Kier Starmer has indicated that he wants Angela Rayner to return to the cabinet

In an interview with the Observer Starmer he said that “of course” he misses her and that he was “really sad that we lost her.” He tells the paper that she will return to the cabinet as she is “hugely talented.

One commentator says that Rayner has been offered jobs, including Education Secretary, by aides, upon her potential return to government in the future

There is other speculation though in the Sunday press about the Greater Manchester MP and former deputy leader

The Sunday Times columnist Jason Cowley says that everyone is waiting for Labour’s slightly-disgraced former deputy leader to announce her next move —   He adds sthat Lucy Powell, Louise Haigh, and Ed Miliband would all make way if she signalled that she would stand for the top job.

While in the same paper Labour MP is claiming that Rayner will oppose Justice Secretary David Lammy’s proposals to scrap some jury trials
