The Prime Minister Keir Starmer appealed directly to working class voters on Tuesday, calling on Labour’s traditional supporters to reject the “snake oil” peddled by the populist Reform UK party and back his vision of “a Britain built for all”

Addressing the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool. in what has been described as an honest and heartfelt speech he told conference that he would fight every day for the tolerant, decent, and respectful Britain I know.”If you incite racist violence and hatred, you are an enemy of national renewal.” he said adding that the UK stands at a ‘fork in the road’ as he sought to unite Labour and the country behind him against Nigel Farage’s Reform UK

He continued saying

“No matter how many people tell me that it can’t be done, I believe Britain can come together… that we can pursue a shared destination, that we can unite behind the common good.

“That is my ambition, the purpose of this Government. End decline, reform our public services, grow our economy from the grassroots.

“And with resolve with respect and the flag in our hands, we will renew this country until we can say with total conviction: that Britain is built for all”

In a jibe at the previous Government he gave a warning

“I have had enough of lectures from self appointed champions of working people…those who crashed the economy, those who unleashed chaos and walked away after Brexit.” and in a warning for the future told the audience the tough decisions “will keep on coming”. As the government starts preparing for the budget, he adds: “It doesn’t get easier from here”.

“I acknowledge the temptation – you can see it all around the world – to cast off the constraints to engage in ideological fantasy. But it does not matter if it’s unfunded tax cuts or unfunded spending. The results are the same”.
