The Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said says 9.2m people have now have been vaccinated across UK

Nine out of 10 over-80s and over half of all people in their 70s are included in those figures he said speaking at the Downing Street press conference adding that Hancock said he was “filled with pride” that the NHS has managed what he calls a “wonderful achievement”.

He also confirmed that says 105 cases of the South African variant have been identified in the UK. He says 11 of them appear to have no connection to travel.

However he added that there’s currently no evidence to suggest this variant is any more severe.

Hancock said that the Government is taking a “no regrets” approach and over-ordering vaccines.

He says he is “of course” delighted the vaccine drive is going well, and the main reason he is pleased with the AstraZeneca vaccine contract is that it can be deployed to the poorest parts of the world.

“We will play our part to help the poorest people around the world,” he says.
