Every three years in Britain, a billion tonnes of clothing ends up in the bin, and to combat this, a group of people from Manchester and Salford have come together to launch a sustainable fashion and music event in support of local non-profit organisation Emmeline’s Pantry.

On the 29th of February, fivefourstudios in Salford will host a showcase of speakers, retailers and designers, to support better buying practices and conscious consumption. On the day, guest speakers include writer and lecturer Sophie Benson, entertainment from renowned DJ’s including Danielle Moore (Crazy P), BB (Supernature) and movement from House of Ghetto.

Manchester’s Sustainable Fashion Party is the brainchild of Alison Carlin. Originally from Derry, she moved to Manchester 25 years ago and has since immersed herself in the city’s arts and culture scene.

Incredibly passionate about clothing and the ethics that surround the industry, Alison is the founder of ‘Ally Pally Vintage’, re-selling sought after clothing for the region’s most stylish women. She handpicks selected items from clothes markets to second-hand shops and wants to encourage the fun and creativity to be had when purchasing pre-loved clothing.

Carving out a successful career in sales and business development, Alison has a wealth of experience in connecting people and businesses together. The event will bring together companies and individuals who promote a more circular approach to fashion ethics.

All of the people involved in the event are fully behind diverting from landfill and in turn helping the planet. The event will be raising awareness on ways we can contribute to a more circular economy and as climate change forces us to recognize that an ever-increasing number of people live in a world with finite resources, the need for change has become clearer.

This has brought a wider appreciation of the economic potential of the “recycling” circular economic approach. The circular economic model appears to be one of the solutions that can deliver not only on the climate crisis but also, more generally, in terms of encouraging sustainable consumption patterns without compromising on the quality of life.

The event will take place on the 29th of February at fivefourstudios (54 Oldfield Road Salford, M5 4LZ) and start at 19:00 and end at 01:00.
