Manchester-based inventor’s company has designed the world’s first AI-powered fitness coach on a smartwatch.
intellithing was founded in 2019 by 28-year-old Saeid Jamali, a computer engineer who studied the fields of Internet of Things (IoT), Bigdata and Machine.
“Back in 2017 we wanted to integrate AI and IoT with medical devices to help vulnerable patients and save hundreds of thousands of lives,” Saeid said. “Moreover, we researched the field and made innovative enhancements to the technologies.
“We came up with an idea that we could revolutionise the health and fitness industry if we created a personal AI that reads and learns your body in ways that are not possible for humans to learn.”
Wanting to make AI available to the public to help individuals with tailored solutions, Saeid aimed to inspire and accelerate the integration of humanity with Artificial Intelligence.
“We wanted to create a system that evolves around you and your personalised health and fitness needs,” he said. “A system that not only guides you but predicts the future of your fitness so it can help you make corrections to achieve your fitness goals efficiently. In 2018 we started researching and building at an academic level and by the end of that year we proved the concept in theory, but it did not work in practice.
“In 2019 we kept going because we believed it would work so we tested and unexpectedly it did not work.”
Saeid and his team worked on it day and night – testing regularly but seeing no breakthrough. He continued: “At that point we were convinced that the idea was nothing more than a dream – but it was our passion.
“We scrapped a lot of the project off and started testing again, eventually getting it right. Another issue arose though, the original wearable devices that we used for reading vital signs were bulky, heavy, and unpleasant. The most difficult part of the project, creating a personal AI, was completed – but how could we get people to wear those bulky devices?
“The solution was obvious; smartwatches are readily available, and we can easily integrate them with our AI. As a result, we unintentionally invented the world’s first AI-enabled smartwatch – a concept that we’d like to call intelligentwatch.”
At the beginning of 2021, Saeid and his team had everything figured out, so they expanded, employed and started the process of turning the prototype into a final product.
