Robot creator and artist from Quays Culture’s emerging artist programme for this year’s Lightwaves 2017 is searching for locals, from across Greater Manchester, to share their story of a place in the area that’s of importance to them.
The stories will be immortalised in an installation of robots, which will be displayed during the FREE annual light festival this December. Lightwaves2017
The artist Naifei Wu is creator of Storyteller #2, the name given to the group of three robots, and is part of Quays Culture’s SHINE emerging artist programme. In partnership with Light Night Leeds, Quays Culture has commissioned these young artists to produce new art.
Naifei Wu’s vision for her robots is that they will be encoded to interact with audiences. The robots will be programmed to tell local stories of people. To help bring the robots to life, the artist is looking for locals to speak up and share details of a place that is special to them in Greater Manchester.
An essential part of the story is ‘what happened at that location’, and ‘why it’s unforgettable’, and of course a little information on the storyteller too! If you would like to be involved, or you know of someone else that would be, then email Art@quaysculture.com with the story.
Glowing as they embody friends and loved ones, these new commissions will light up the area, bringing light to those dark winter nights. Lightwaves 2017’s 10 FREE light experiences, from local, national, and international artists, will span across Salford Quays, from the Plaza between The Lowry and the Lowry Outlet, to MediaCityUK.
