JW Lees has bought the Royal Oak in Glossop, a historic pub built in 1818, 10 years before JW Lees was founded.

With 90 internal covers and 40 external covers the pub has been closed for a number of years. JW Lees will be making a £500k+ investment to transform the site into a modern fit-for-purpose family dining pub that will operate within JW Lees’s Pub Partner trading division.

The pub is planned to re-open later this summer once the refurbishment is complete.

William Lees-Jones, JW Lees Managing Director, said,

‘Glossop has been on our radar for quite some time and we’ve been impressed with the success of the Market Hall since it opened.  We like The Royal Oak and think that it will quickly establish itself with locals and walkers since there are some great country walks nearby and it’s worth the trip to go there for a proper pub lunch before or after. It’s good to be buying new pubs again and we are focused on adding to our Pub Partner and Retail Operator estates rather than Managed Houses. Individual pubs like the Royal Oak are hard to come by but we’re confident this will be the first of many, as we scale up our investment programme.’
