Hatch, Manchester’s award-winning food, drink, and retail destination, has welcomed fabulous new traders this spring. These include a Brazilian-Mexican eatery from one of Manchester’s most acclaimed chefs along with a new vintage retailer.

Great British Menu’s Caroline Martins, who is behind Manchester pop-up success story Sao Paulo Project, has chosen Hatch as the home of her new concept RIO-MEX. Her new Brazilian-Mexican fusion street food project will be serving tacos, loaded nachos, churros and salgadinhos, or ‘savoury nibbles’ which are often served in Brazilian pubs. Menu highlights include the Chilli Con Carne Taco, which takes five hours to cook and the perfect blend of herbs and spices to prepare.

The inspiration for RIO-MEX came from Caroline’s passion for the food of her home country of Brazil combined with the time she spent living in Texas. RIO-MEX is a brand new concept from one of Manchester’s most exciting chefs reflecting two of her favourite cuisines.

“I fell in love with Hatch back in 2022 when I visited for the first time – the whole vibe was awesome!” says Caroline Martins. “It’s the home of diversity in Manchester and a place where you can get everything done in one place. You can pop in, get your nails done, buy a cool vintage vest, get a cocktail at Miami Ice and have some incredible street food for dinner. And now RIO-MEX is joining; we can’t wait for everyone to try our beautiful Brazilian-Mexican fusion menu.”

Also opening at Hatch is The Curiosity Shop, a preloved and vintage store with a focus on more sustainable shopping. Brought to Manchester by the team behind Age UK Manchester, The Curiosity Shop offers an alternative to fast fashion and strives towards elevating the charity shop experience. A wide range of thrifted and upcycled items will be available in store; with the Curiosity gang also keen to host regular workshops demonstrating how to breathe a new lease of life into clothes collecting dust in your wardrobe.

All profits made from purchases at The Curiosity Shop will support Manchester’s older community and will go towards providing them a ‘relationship for life’ with Age UK Manchester. The Curiosity Shop will be open Monday to Sunday, 12PM – 6PM.

Ashley Carter Lawlor from The Curiosity Shop commented: “The Curiosity Shop team are so excited to be joining the Hatch family. We love the idea of independent creatives all working on individual projects in a collective space, so it seems like the perfect place for us in Manchester. We’re excited to meet all of the fabulous people of Manchester who shop sustainably and care about ethical retail, especially since all purchases will go towards a great cause. See you all soon!”

Hatch supports brand new ideas helping to launch entrepreneurial fashion, jewellery, art, craft and design start-ups. Clustered around an inviting courtyard, new ventures launch on a regular basis, rewarding visitors with a fresh experience every time.

Hatch is designed with disruptive, independent businesses in mind and is run by Bruntwood – the people behind iconic Manchester destination – Afflecks.
