Grayson Perry is a man. He is also an award-winning artist, Bafta-winning TV presenter, Reith Lecturer and bestselling author with traditional masculine traits, like a desire to always be right and to overtake all other cyclists when going up big hills. So what is masculinity and what can it become?

It might seem almost redundant in a world facing climate change and vast imbalances in global wealth, but Grayson Perry sees masculinity as a highly active component in all the big issues.

To accompany the release of his new book, ‘The Descent of Man’, the Turner Prize-winning artist will be embarking on a one-off UK live theatre tour. Taking place over five dates in November, Grayson Perry’s Typical Man In A Dress will treat audiences all over the country to an intelligent evening of laughs, discussion, insight and costume changes…

Born in Chelmsford in 1960, Grayson Perry is an award-winning artist who works in a variety of media, including embroidery and photography, yet he is best known for his ceramic works: classically shaped vases covered with figures, patterns and text. In 2003, he became famous as the first ceramic artist to win the Turner Prize and was awarded a CBE in 2014.

Alongside his art, Grayson has challenged and entertained viewers with his documentaries. These have included Why Men Wear Frocks, in which he examined transvestism and masculinity in the 21st century, Who Are You? Which led to the accompanying artwork from the series being housed in the National Portrait Gallery and All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry for which he received a BAFTA for Specialist Factional Television. Grayson’s forthcoming Channel 4 series, All Man airs in May 2016.

Having presented Myths of the Artist at the Tate Modern and made history when he delivered the prestigious Reith Lectures for BBC Radio 4, becoming the first artist to do so, Grayson Perry’s Typical Man In A Dress promises to be a highly anticipated show.

Grayson Perry will be appearing at the Lowry Salford Quays on the 7th November

The Descent of Man will be published on 27th October by Particular Books (Penguin).
