Local mental health charity, Moodswings, is partnering with developers Far East Consortium on a free mental health walk for those living in the city and their pets.

The ‘Walk & Talk’ event will take place over lunchtime on Thursday 26th May (12 – 2pm) with the chance to meet likeminded people and speak to Moodswings’ mental health and wellbeing experts. Both dog owners and those without pets are welcome to join.

Attendees should meet at Moodswings’ HQ (36 New Mount Street, M4 4DE) for a walk along Islington Marina, where dogs can be off lead.

The walk will finish at Cocoa Cabana Ancoats with an optional lunch and a selection of dog treats on offer – including giveaways of the brand’s new ‘Cocoa Paws’ chocolates.

Tom Godfrey, community hub project supervisor from Moodswings, said, “The companionship that a dog can offer can help to ease stress, anxiety and reduce loneliness. Our Walk & Talk group is aimed at bringing people together as a healthy distraction from the challenges of everyday life, helping people to feel less alone in whatever they are going through at that time.

We believe dogs can act as the ultimate social catalyst to emphasise this further, with no judgment or bias, they can help to break down social barriers that may otherwise be present.”

Andrew Bradley-Nixon, sales and marketing director at FEC, said, “We’ve supported Moodswings and the positive work it’s doing within the community for the last few years.

After a series of successful mindfulness walks with the team there last year, we wanted to do something and little different. This event gives people a chance to meet others that may be in a similar position and have a friendly ear in the Moodswings experts.”

Far East Consortium are the developers behind MeadowSide – a development of more than 750 pet-friendly one, two and three-bedroom apartments, townhouses and penthouses overlooking Angel Meadow Park, the city centre’s largest green space.
