Ever wondered what a scientist does or how the wonders of the modern world look surrounded by LED lights?

The Museum of Science & Industry’s purpose built Pi: Platform for Investigation is back for 2015, offering visitors of all ages the opportunity to discover, marvel and explore the joys and the magic of the science all around us.

Launched last year and continuing monthly on Saturdays from 17 January, the Pi: Platform for Investigation offers free, drop in creative workshops led by leading scientists, artists, technologists and researchers.

Each month they take to the platform to share their discoveries on a different theme – offering visitors a hands on and creative learning experience.

From stroke awareness to the wonders of light, the science behind cycling to the basics of particle physics – these informal and diverse workshops truly bring science to life through participatory and playful live experiments.

Designed and built by Manchester based 24 Design and supported by Siemens, the platform is a unique, flexible and pop-up space created exclusively for the museum. Made up of scientific equipment, high-tech audiovisual features and an innovative Arduino chip powered LED light display, this versatile space allows budding scientists young and old alike the chance to fully immerse themselves in cutting edge technology and science.

Head of Learning and Public Programmes Natalie Ireland comments: “It is so important for us as a science museum to find creative, imaginative and hands-on ways for our visitors of all ages to experience science-based subjects. This cutting-edge platform allows us to do just this, in an informal setting. Watching grandparents and adults on the platform exploring science in this way, alongside school age children is a real joy to see each month.”
