Escape to Freight Island has revealed its latest line up of larger-than-life kids’ events, and it’s packed with roarsome, raving, laugh out loud fun.

Escape to Freight Island opened last year to huge fanfare, cramming Mayfield Depot site with several of the best restaurants and bars in the city. The space quickly became a hit with parents looking for a destination that could please the kids without sacrificing grown up fun, good food, and a great atmosphere.

This November, Escape to Freight Island will play host to a raft of fun-filled family events, with something for everyone taking place on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

6th November sees the much-anticipated arrival of TeachRex. Kids can get up close and personal with outrageously lifelike automated dinosaurs, learning all about our prehistoric pals and how they roamed the planet. In a 50-minute show, followed by a dinosaur meet and greet, young adventurers will be mesmerised, entertained and educated. With a range of brunch options and a bar open throughout, parents can watch the fun and enjoy Escape to Freight Island’s famed food options, too.

Doors open at 10am. The 50-minute show begins at 10.15 and is followed by a meet and greet.

On 7th November, the venue rolls out the red carpet for Playhouse Project Family Rave with Disco Mums and Cequin Circus. The all-female Manchester based DJ collective of seasoned clubbers (and proud parents) are fired up and fresh from their acclaimed Manchester International Festival set. They’ll be bringing the party vibes with guaranteed feel-good tunes, ranging from Disco, House, Techno, Boogie and Italo. Disco ball dancers from Cequin Circus will be out to bedazzle, dance and shine bright, bringing their hoops to entertain kids on the dancefloor.

From 10am to midday, the family rave will also boast cool crafts from Square Pegs, bubble machines, face painting and glitter fairies, and even baby sensory activities for under fours.

Budding reporters, keen cartoonists and YouTubers of the future from across Manchester are invited to enjoy the Media Cubs Workshop on 14th November. Three two-hour workshops will run between 9am and 3pm. The sessions, hosted in a pop up studio, will see each reporter receive their own ‘reporter pack’ complete with reporter handbook and press pass, and enjoy a range of creative and digital news reporting challenges.

For the very first time, family block party Fun DMC will welcome Manchester ravers and misbehavers on 20th November. The daytime disco for those too old or too young to go clubbing plays music parents loved back in the day, while giving kids a chance to dance, play and even have a scratch on the decks. This is memory-making family time that everyone can enjoy, and mums and dads might even have the chance for a cheeky drink.

Fun DMC will run from 10am til midday, with giveaways, dance competitions, face painting, a graffiti train, hip-hop colouring in and a photo booth for maximum fun.

On 27th November, Science Made Simple will run two back-to-back 50 minute workshops. Music to your Ears will allow little ones to hear, see, and touch sound, while learning secrets of how sound works. Science of Sport meanwhile, is an interactive show explaining exactly how science impacts sporting ability.

Last up is laugh out loud live performances, as The Comedy Store for Kids dishes out family friendly stand up on 28th November. Performances from Alex Boardman, Kate McCabe and El Baldinho will have audience members of all ages rolling in the aisles, and possibly even laughing their socks off! The show starts at 10.45am.
