Local baby and child swim school, Puddle Ducks Greater Manchester has seen huge demand for their lessons, after children have missed out on nearly eighteen months in the pool due to the pandemic.

This has prompted a real need for more teachers to fill the gap and offer more lessons. Puddle Ducks are looking to increase their teacher numbers by 25%.

The pandemic not only stopped children from learning to swim, but it also caused many to look on their working lives with a new light. Aviva has found that nearly a fifth of UK adults hope to generate an income stream from a hobby, and 87% of under-25s are re-thinking their careers as a result of the pandemic. *

Aviva also reports that nearly 700,000 people are looking to switch to a role that helps others. Teaching children to swim is a truly rewarding path, through which you get to see the joy on a child’s face as they develop a love for the water.

Many of Puddle Ducks’ teachers made a career change before jumping in the pool, coming from all walks of life- from cabin crew to musical theatre!

Joanne joined the team at Puddle Ducks as a teacher after working a 9-5 office job. She took her own son to lessons during her maternity leave, where her teacher made it look like the best job in the world.

Joanne comments, “It really is the best job- it fits perfectly around my family life, and I still enjoy being a customer as my boy is 5 and still attending lessons. It is a truly rewarding role where you get to see little swimmers build their confidence in the water. There’s nothing better to brighten your day than a class of children all smiling back at you!”

One thing all Puddle Ducks teachers share is a true passion for children’s development and a love for the water. You will teach children to swim confidently and beautifully, building their swimming skills as well as their understanding of the water and how to stay safe whilst enjoying it.

Suzanne Horton, owner of Puddle Ducks Greater Manchester comments, “After many months out of the pool, our little swimmers are jumping back in eagerly and we are looking for enthusiastic and passionate people to become swimming teachers, or swimming teachers looking for a more rewarding role to join our team.

The pandemic has caused a huge increase in numbers of children learning to swim- as pools were shut throughout the lockdown periods. The STA reports that nearly 1 million children could leave primary school in the next five years unable to swim due to COVID-19 disruptions. We are seeing massive numbers of enquiries, and are expanding our team to meet demand.

We are happy to offer fully paid training periods and regular, guaranteed hours as well as a number of progression opportunities. Many of our franchise owners joined us as teachers and have now progressed to owning their own swim school business- there are so many different routes this role can guide you through!”

Suzanne Horton continues, “There is nothing that compares to seeing the look of joy on a child’s face when they are swimming- learning new skills whilst having so much fun!”
