A 40kg puppet Aslan, from the production The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, arrives at The Lowry and will be suspended majestically in the main foyer until 2022

This week The Lowry welcomed Aslan, a 40kg puppet from the  The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe stage show.

The puppet, which is made from aluminium, timber and cane and is covered in fabric and paper, has been suspended majestically in The Lowry’s main foyer until early 2022.

Aslan is one of three versions created for the stage show and was used during the production’s run at The Bridge Theatre, London in 2019/20.

A new Aslan puppet been created for the current tour which visits The Lowry over Christmas, opening on Wednesday 8 December 2021 and running until Saturday 15 January 2022.

The third reincarnation of Aslan, and what audiences can expect to see when watching the production at The Lowry this festive season, has been imagined by Puppetry Director Toby Olié.

The show broke box office records at Leeds Playhouse in 2017 and played to packed houses and critical acclaim at the Bridge Theatre in London in 2019.

The cast includes Samantha Womack (White Witch),  Ammar Duffus (Peter Pevensie), Shaka Kalokoh (Edmund Pevensie), Robyn Sinclair (Susan Pevensie) and Karise Yansen (Lucy Pevensie).   Aslan is played by Chris Jared, Mr Tumnus by Jez Unwin, Mr Beaver by Sam Buttery and Maugrim by Michael Ahomka-Lindsay. The tour will be directed by Michael Fentiman, based on the original production bySally Cookson with original Set and Costume design by Rae Smith.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is produced on tour by Elliott & Harper Productions and Catherine Schreiber and based on the original Leeds Playhouse production.
