Another 616 people have died in the Uk’s hospitals from Coronavirus taking the total hospital death toll to 18,738 say the Department of Health.

583,496 tests have concluded, with 23,560 tests yesterday. A total of 425,821 people have been tested of which 138,078 tested positive.

The capacity for testing has reached 48,273 tests a day, according to a government spokesman who added  that 111,637 NHS and care workers and their relatives in total have been tested – up more than 10,000 on the previous day’s total.

The Government has committed to 100,000 tests a day by the end of April.

At the Daily Press Conference the Health Secretary Matt Hancock said from today employers of essential workers can go on gov.uk and book a test for their staff.

From tomorrow essential workers will be able to do this themselves and relatives will be covered with the whole process free.

Meanwhile 18,000 people, including 3,000 clinicians, are being hired to work on coronavirus contact tracing.A rigorous process of testing, tracking and tracing will be employed as and when the lockdown is relaxed to keep the infection rate down.
